The Vestry and Wardens prayerfully and joyfully announce that they issued a call to The Reverend David Andrew "Andy" Olivo to become the sixth rector of Saint Elizabeth's Church in Ridgewood, and he has accepted the call.

DAO head shotThe Reverend David Andrew "Andy" Olivo comes to St. Elizabeth's from St. John's Church, Lafayette Square in Washington, DC -- sometimes referred to as the Church of the Presidents -- where he has served as assistant rector for five years. Prior to his ministry at St. John's, Andy was on staff at St. Paul's Church in Chattanooga, TN, first as a seminarian and then as an associate rector.

In his ministry, Andy is especially passionate about the art of preaching, relationship building, church growth, and pastoral care. He has been active in diocesan and national church ministries, including as a member of Diocesan Council (Diocese of East Tennessee), an elected Deputy to General Convention, and a member of the Planning Committee for the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes (CEEP).

Originally from southern Indiana, Andy moved to the mountains of east Tennessee to attend Milligan College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in religious studies. While in college, he worked as the Director of Christian Education for Children at St. John's Church in Johnson City, TN, and there began the discernment process for ordination. Andy attended seminary at the School of Theology at the University of the South (Sewanee), where he received his Master of Divinity degree.

Andy is married to Catherine Outten Olivo. They have a son, Charles, and a daughter, Mary Claire. He enjoys going to the theater and other live performances, watching baseball, playing golf ("poorly"), listening to podcasts on faith and storytelling, reading The New Yorker, and spending time with his family and friends.

Olivo FamilyAndy, Catherine, Charles and Mary Claire are planning to move to the Rectory in mid-August to be ready for the start of the school year and Opening Sunday on September 8.  As we get closer to the date of their arrival, there will be more news about how we as a parish are preparing to welcome the Olivos into our church family and how you will be able to participate in that process.

Andy has written a letter to St. Elizabeth's church family that we would like to share with you here.

Our thanks to the Rector Search Committee for their hard work and dedication these past several months that resulted in the call to Andy to become our next rector. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Vestry for their efforts during the search process, especially in the final stages.

We look forward to introducing Andy and the Olivo family to the parish this fall and we hope you share our excitement about the future of St. Elizabeth's Church under Andy's leadership.

Sincerely,

Don Taylor
